Dr Lawrence Wilson

Lawrence Wilson

Our friend and colleague, Dr Lawrence Wilson sadly died on the 20th of November 2024. Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Born in Burnley, raised in Preston, Lawrence attended Newman College and completed Arts A-levels prior to a pre-med year in Manchester followed by his medical degree.

His journey included house jobs in Chester and Macclesfield, followed by an anatomy demonstrator role  which confirmed his interest and talent for teaching. He undertook a transformative fellowship in Western Australia where he gained invaluable experience and featured in an article about overseas doctors in ‘The Australian’.

Lawrence rapidly settled on a career in anaesthesia and intensive care and gained a training position in Mersey Deanery. Subsequently, as a key figure in the Mersey School of Anaesthesia, he dedicated much time developing, directing and delivering teaching on many courses over a 15-year period. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Liverpool Society of Anaesthetists, attending multiple meetings and events over the years.

His clinical leadership of ICU at the Countess of Chester for four years, including the pandemic, demonstrated his unwavering commitment to both patients and staff. He ultimately joined the NHS England in-reach programme to assist other units.

Lawrence will be remembered as a loving family man, a caring colleague, adventurous spirit, and a source of endless warmth and wisdom. Those who knew him well will know that his  spiritual home was in the Alps in winter with family and friends.

He leaves his beloved wife and two children.
